  15. <p>     DIED. Mitch Snyder, 46, indefatigable champion of the
  16. homeless; apparently by suicide; in Washington. Snyder was
  17. found hanged, with an electric cord around his neck, at the
  18. Community for Creative Non-Violence shelter he helped
  19. establish. Police attributed the suicide to his despair over
  20. a failed relationship. On the eve of the 1984 presidential
  21. election, Snyder defied death and Ronald Reagan in a 51-day fast
  22. that ultimately led the Government to donate an abandoned
  23. federal building for a showcase shelter. Martin Sheen portrayed
  24. him in the 1986 CBS television movie Samaritan: The Mitch
  25. Snyder Story.
